Marie E. (Duarte) Speaks, age 88, of Providence, Rhode Island, passed away on March 6, 2024 surrounded by her son Jeffery, daughter-in-law Sonya, granddaughter Chelcie Speaks and her 'bonus' granddaughter Dajann Nance. She was the companion of the late, Charles 'Papi' F. Brown.
Marie was the daughter of the late John M. and the late Addie 'Sugar' Duarte. The sister of the late Francis Suares, the late Louise White, and the late Jesse Duarte.
She leaves 10 grandchildren. A host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Marie was a beloved matriarch who cherished her family deeply. She is survived by her oldest son, Jeffery Speaks (Sonya) of Providence, her daughter, Nancy Speaks of Pawtucket, and son, Sidney Speaks of Simpsonville, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her son, Micheal Larry Duarte, and her daughter, Michele Marie Speaks.
Marie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for cooking and was renowned for her expertise in making Chupa. She also enjoyed listening to music, watching game shows, learning to FaceTime with her grandchildren and loved her Twin River getaways with her late daughter, Michele.
A funeral service in memory of Marie will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church on Friday, March 15, 2024. Viewing hours will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with services following from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. The burial will take place thereafter at The Gates of Heaven in East Providence.
Marie will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
